Meet the Director
Marie-Louise St. Gaudens Fiatarone
Director of the Fiat Music Co. and Fiat School of Music
Marie-Louise is the great-grand niece of the French American sculptor, Augustus St. Gaudens who is famous for his statue of the seated Lincoln, The Diana Sculpture at the top of Madison Square Garden and the design of the $20 gold piece.
Marie-Louise, a Phi Beta Kappa Graduate of U.C. Berkeley with M.A. degree from Holy Names College, is a performer, teacher, arranger and composer whose composition “Make My World Beautiful”, has been published by Columbia-Warner Brothers in their book “The Wedding Present”. Her performances range from a debut recital at the age of seven with members of the San Francisco Symphony, through engagements as intermission pianist for George Shearing, Errol Garner, Dave Brubeck and Oscar Peterson, to a recent guest soloist appearance with the San Francisco Concerto Orchestra in the Shostakovitch 2nd Piano Concerto. As a winner in both Classical and Jazz divisions of the 1999 Steinway-Boston National Competition, she has been acclaimed by the Daily Californian as “one of the most versatile musicians on the west coast”. Marie-Louise was the vocal coach for eight years for Billie Joe of Green Day. She has also coached Kristy Cates who is now appearing on Broadway in “Wicked”
Marie-Louise is also an accomplished alto sax and clarinet performer, having taught Woodwind classes at S.F. State College, performing with the S.F. Little Symphony under Gregory Millar, and recorded movie soundtracks on clarinet. Her teachers have been John Geabacos (SF Symphony Woodwind member), George Gruenberg and Bernard Abramowitsch.
Her theatrical experiences include being musical director of the S.F. Opera Ring Theatre for the musicals "Can Can" and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes". She also staged ten Broadway Musicals in the Richmond School District with her two hundred plus students each year.
When interviewed for "Business of the Year" the reporter asked "Have you been a music instructor in the area for quite ahwile?" Have any of your students gone on to bigger and better things? We are proud to answer yes and list the following students of Fiat Music: Kristy Cates as Elphaba in "Wicked." Billy Joe of Green Day (recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) and Denzel Foster (producer of the group, En Vogue).
